The Balance 58

The line between moral conviction and logical calculation is often a hard one to place. From a moral standpoint, war is horrific, and should be resolved as peacefully as one can do within their power. Logically, the longer a war last, the greater the cost in lives will rise. There are many countless military heros and villains that thought along the same lines as Castleton, knowing that the more horrible one rages war, the quicker the world will get sick of and call for an end. Personally, I think both Caedmon and Castleton are correct in their approaches which is an odd conclusion to come to. Fight the war like a gentleman, and it will only last longer, killing more people as years continue. Fight the war with a cold hearted approach, and your attacks become more devastating, though it opens your heart to far more evil in the name of ending war. One could even argue that there is no right way to wage war, as war itself is so horrible regardless. During the American Civil War, Robert E Lee was recorded saying, "It is well that war is so terrible, or we would grow too fond of it." Approximately 150 years later, I would venture a guess that we're more fond of it than we realize.
