Following the third in the ‘Black Rose’ murders, Police Chief Kayden has now issued a statement. “The Bumcrack PD are of course extremely concerned at all these murders and particularly so now that it seems clear we have a serial killer operating in the area. Our main area of investigation centres on the fact that all the victims have been hair stylists working at the newly opened ‘Hair We Are’ salon and we have been consulting with Mr Scissorhands the proprietor to check for any instances of dissatisfied clients but he has assured us that since opening he has had nothing but praise for the work of his staff. All indications are that the murders took place where the bodies were found – two of them in the town square – but there were no reports of anyone hearing the fatal shot which leads us to believe that the murderer is using a well silenced firearm. The post mortem examinations carried out by the Bumcrack coroner, Malcom Slaughter, have confirmed that the same weapon was used in all three cases and that confirms our suspicion that we are dealing with a single serial killer and not a series of copy-cat crimes. The roses have been sent to GE City for detailed examination as none of the Bumcrack florists has had any on sale and a preliminary examination could not determine whether they were true black roses or dyed blooms. I can confirm that, in view of the seriousness of this case, the Bumcrack PD will be enlisting help from external and Federal sources but you will appreciate that I am not at liberty to give details of these for operational reasons. The investigation in Bumcrack is being headed by Sergeant Vienna, our most experienced officer who was commended for her part in the arrest of Ella Boomer after the prostitution racket of ‘Ella’s Relations’ was busted last spring.
